9,000+ Registered Users

Horray for UrParts

We at UrParts.com regularly have nice things to celebrate but this week we hit a particularly momentous occasion when we went over 9,000 users. As we eat, breath and sleep parts, it’s good to know that over 9,000 people out there have come to us for help. Just knowing that we helped all these people save both Time and Money in their quest to find construction parts gives us a particularly warm squishy feeling inside.

On closer inspection it transpires that these people are located in 170 different countries around the world.  This got us thinking… What countries are we missing?

Can anybody guess?

Qatar World Cup 2022 comes at the price of human life.

World cup

Doha is a hive of construction activity with the 2022 World Cup development plans in full swing.  However the allegations of workers mistreatment is overshadowing any positive press it might bring to the region.  With many of the workers coming from Nepal and India reports suggest that on average 400 workers are dying every year. Evidence suggest that they are being forced to work 15 hour days in over 50 degree temperatures and surviving on a minimum of 1 meal per day. Between shifts they are living in appalling conditions with 20 people per room without access to basic medical facilities. Many of the workers went to Qatar expecting to be utilizing their trades as electricians and plumbers only to find that they are working cleaning or carrying cement and bricks on high rise apartment buildings.

Trade unions are concerned that the death toll could rise to 600 per year if drastic action is not taken soon to improve conditions.  Qatar is one of the world richest countries and is using over $100bn gained from natural resources on the infrastructure required to host the world cup.  While this is of benefit to the construction and spare parts industries, trade unions campaign it should not be at the expense of human beings trying to earn a living.

Competition Increases for Fire Damaged Machines

machine in fire

Prices for the fire damaged, or general machines for spare parts, at the recent Euro Auction in Leeds were remarkably high. Biding between competing dismantlers was fierce as they all try to increase their inventory of available used parts. Even though there has been a marked decrease in the scrap value of the metal, this increase in the prices being paid for damaged machines reiterates how the used parts market is continuing to grow. Demand for cheaper alternatives to main dealer prices for construction equipment parts has fuelled this growth. With month on month increases in parts requests submitted through online parts network UrParts.com it looks like this trend will continue.

Beware of Scammers

scam alert

We have been made aware of a particularly nasty scam that everybody dealing across international borders should be aware of. Somebody hacked into their Yahoo email account and saw that they had agreed to purchase a machine.  After the vendor emailed the invoice they copied the invoice, changed the bank details and then contacted the buyer saying that the account number had changed. Had the purchaser looked closely they would have noticed that the email address was not the correct email address rather the companyname@mail.com.  The purchaser then made a bank transfer into the fake account thinking it belonged to the supplier.  Luckily on this occasion the customer was able to intervene with the Police and got their funds returned, but others might not be so lucky.

We have come up with some helpful tips to help avoid becoming the victim of a scam whether you are buying or selling machinery or parts:

  • Check every detail on the invoice carefully
  • Always call the company in person to verify the bank details
  • Cross reference contact details with the company’s website
  • If in doubt check, double check and triple check everything
  • Be alert for any suspicious correspondence about changes to bank details

Komatsu overtakes Volvo & JCB

Analysis of the second quarter part requests from around the world have revealed that Komatsu has overtaken Volvo and JCB as the second highest brand when compared to the first quarter.  Cat continue to hold the top position however the gap between it and the following 4 brands is narrowing.  In descending order the top 5 brands for this quarter were Cat, Komatsu, Volvo, JCB, Hitachi and they account for almost half out of a total of 2,505 requests processed.  As the number of monthly part requests continue to increase month on month the third quarter results for 2013 should make for interesting reading.

Obama compares Bridges in the US to people on Medicare

bridges

There are thousands of bridges throughout the USA that are in dire need of either repair or replacement. Many face the problem however that the designs are so old it would be more prudent to tear down and replace with modern new bridges built with modern construction methods and machinery.   Obama’s suggests congress pass his “Fix-it-First” plan that he set up to try to get people back into the workforce by increasing infrastructure spending.  He commented that there are over 100,000 bridges old enough to qualify for Medicare.

A spokesperson from the Department of Transport urged people not to worry as all the bridges are safe and under constant monitoring by the department.

The increase in infrastructure spending should help boost the markets and increase sales for construction machinery and parts.
